REBA POSTELS

Reba Postels, 85, of Grinnell died Oct. 21, 2009, at her home.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Pope, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating. Honorary bearers will be Sara and Eric Heimsoth; and Greg, James, Kayla, and Kristin Postels. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

The family will greet friends in the Friendship Hall of the church following the memorial service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell-Newburg Educational Excellence, Grinnell Regional Medical Center, or St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Reba was born July 7, 1924, in Grinnell, the daughter of Harry E. and Mina Matteson Crowder. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1942 graduate of Grinnell High School. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., and in 1946 received a degree in home economics at the University of Iowa.

On Feb. 9, 1947, Reba married to Ned Postels, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell. The couple lived and worked in Peoria, Ill., for Caterpillar. They moved back to Grinnell in 1948 and made their home there until 1963 when they moved to Sedalia, Mo. They returned to Grinnell in 1975 and owned and operated Grinnell Beverage Company and Wayside Florist.

Reba loved to play golf and was the 1961 women's golf champion at Grinnell Country Club and recorded a hole in one at Indian Wells Resort Course in Palm Desert, Calif. She enjoyed playing pitch and bridge, reading, traveling, and knitting. She was a beautiful seamstress. Some of her happiest times were with family and friends at their lake cabin near Ewart, vacationing at Palm Desert, and especially at her home in Grinnell.

Survivors include her husband, Ned of Grinnell; two children, Dick Postels and Joanie Heimsoth of Grinnell; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Norma Vance.
