MINA CROWDER RITES FRIDAY

Mina Crowder, 84, of 324 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died of cancer Monday, Oct. 6, at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Organist will be Barb Lien. Pallbearers will be Ed Adkins, Dwight Carey, Don Gersdorf, Max Mehroff, Michael Sedrel and Clarence Van Zee. Honorary bearers will be Kenneth Adkins, Raymond Allison, Dr. Raymond Light and Delmar Van Gorp.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Mrs. Crowder's name may be made to Grinnell General Hospital's Home Health Service.

The daughter of Frank and Alta Adkins Matteson, she was born on Oct. 11, 1901, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. She was also a descendant of Perry Matteson and France Adkins who were both early settlers in the Grinnell area and were involved with J.B. Grinnell in the planning of the city.

She attended rural school and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1920. On June 19, 1920, she was married to Harry E. Crowder at Kellogg. They lived in Grinnell and founded the Grinnell Beverage Co. in 1933.

Mrs. Crowder was a member of the P.E.O. and the United Church of Christ-Congregational. She had also served as an election judge in the city's Third Ward.

Survivors include two daughters, Norma Vance of West Des Moines and Reba Postels of Grinnell; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1979 and one sister, Hazel Pearce.
