PAULINE RYAN

Pauline Ryan, 82, of Grinnell died Friday, May 17, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Revs. William and Carol Iammatteo-Code, co-pastors of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. Monday. The family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

She was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Grinnell to Leo and Pearl Anna Gerard Farley. She was raised on the family farm near Ewart and attended Pleasant Township No. 4 School. She was a 1937 graduate of Grinnell High School. She also attended Iowa State University, then taught in rural Poweshiek County schools and worked in civil service.

On Nov. 14, 1943, she was married to Richard Carrol Ryan in Chicago. They farmed near Ewart and moved to Gilman in 1956. Mrs. Ryan served as Gilman postmaster for 21 years. The couple moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell in 1994.

She was a member of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ, the American Legion Auxiliary and Onyx chapter No. 35? of the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Jr. of Quinlan, Texas, and Keith of Marshalltown; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one son, Bruce.
