GLENN 'DOC' FARMER

Longtime Montezuma resident Glenn "Doc" Farmer died Sunday, May 4 at the New Sharon Care Center. He was the son of John and Ruby Wickham Farmer and was born at Searsboro on July 19, 1902. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1917 and enlisted in the U.S. Army on Jan. 8, 1921, serving as a Private 1st Class, Service Company, 39th Infantry. On Aug. 24, 1927, he was married to Clara Linn. They lived in Montezuma. He at one time played on a semi-pro football team. He worked at various jobs during his lifetime, including carpentry. He retired in 1968 after several years with the State Highway Commission.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Morrison of Brooklyn; two nephews, Frank Linn and his wife, Jewel of Barnes City and Dale Gilbert and is wife, Helen of Adel; one niece, Mary Lynn Reece of Toddville; two great nephews, Richard Linn and Steve Gilbert; three great nieces, Sandra Poncy, Kris Conard and Lori McBurney. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Clara on Jan. 21, 1971 and one sister, Leona Thompson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Glenn Hulsebus officiating. Organist was Kathleen Ramsey. Pallbearers were Richard Linn, Loren Reece, Paul Poncy, Max Johnston, Kenneth Bushong and Clifford Beyer. Honorary casket bearers were Lauren Wright, Don Erquist and Harold Taylor. Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
