JOHN ALDEN LINEAGE

Mrs. A.H. Palmer, was in Direct Descent From Alden of the Mayflower

SHE WAS ABI F. ALDEN, BORN IN TAMA COUNTY

Mrs. Palmer, Who Died Last Monday, Was One of Newburg's Much Loved Women

Abi F. Alden, daughter, of Sylvester and Louisa Alden was born in Tama County, Iowa, near Dunbar Dec. 16, 1859. The family moved to Montour in the winter of 1864, when the father was called to the service of his country. She died at her home in Newburg, Monday, April 24, 1922, at the age of sixty-two years, four months and eight days.

She was united in marriage with Anson Palmer, Dec. 18, 1877, at her home in Montour. To this union were born six children, one daughter and five sons.

She is survived by her husband and the children, Mrs. Edith L. Sears of Chester, Albert A. of Gilman, Walter A., George W., Austin and John S. of Newburg. Also by twenty-four grandchildren and one brother, George D. Alden of Albion, Ia., and by one sister, Mrs. C.M. Ryan of Newburg.

She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Montour, Iowa, in 1869, transferred her membership to the Congregational Church at Gilman in 1878 and became one of the charter members of the Newburg Congregational Church at its organization in 1880, and was the last of the lady charter members now associated with the church.

Mrs. Palmer has always stood for the things that were for the good of the community, always active in the church and Sunday School and at the time of her death was superintendent of the cradle roll and chairman of the missionary department. This is the first death in 55 years in the ninth generation of the Iowa Aldens.

The funeral services were conducted from the Congregational Church in Newburg at two o'clock Wednesday, in charge of her present pastor, Rev. W.B. Wilson and her former pastor, Rev. H.L. Wissler. Songs were sung by a quartet composed of Miss Gretchen Buck, Mrs. Maude Beatty, Floyd Bump and George Buck, Miss Breeden accompaniest. The five sons and one son-in-law were bearers. Burial was in Chester cemetery.

Mrs. Palmer-nee Abi Alden bore the name of a famous New England family and was ninth in descent, tracing directly back to John and Priscilla Alden. She was a worthy descendant of her worthy ancestors and was loved by all who knew her.
