OLIVE ALTIG, 78, SUCCUMBS MONDAY AT FARM HOME

Miss Olive Altig, 78, died Monday at her home southwest of Grinnell. She was a lifelong resident of the Grinnell area.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Beebe of the Mayflower Home officiating. Organ music will be provided by Mrs. Harvey Howell.

In charge of flowers will be Mrs. Bob Dale and Mrs. Earl Bryan. Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Dale, Earl Bryan, Jake Krumm, Jim Peak, Martin Pearce, and Pierce Comerford. Interment will be in Westfield cemetery.

Born Aug. 22nd, 1884, in Jasper county, she was the daughter of Perry and Katie Winterstien Altig. She attended the local rural schools and made her home with her parents and later cared for them at the family farm in the Westfield neighborhood.

From a pioneer family, her grandfather, Henry Altig, came to this area around 1847 and aided J.B. Grinnell when he came to establish the city of Grinnell. Her father was a veterinarian and operated a feed barn for horses in Grinnell for several years.

She was secretary for the Westfield Cemetery Association for many years.

Miss Altig is survived by a few distant cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Nicholas A. Altig; and one sister, Henrietta A. Otcheck.
