Sigafoose dies in plane crash

A well-known Montezuma businessman and stunt pilot was killed Sunday when the plane he was piloting in an air show crashed into a cornfield at Centerville in southern Iowa.

Glen Sigafoose, 62, owner of Sig Manufacturing Co., was pronounced dead on arrival at a Centerville hospital.

According to reports, Sigafoose's biplane was doing a double snap roll, apparently stalled, then dived into the cornfield.

The Federal Aviation Administration began an investigation of the crash on Sunday.

One pilot with Midwest Air Shows said the crash may have been indirectly caused by a combination of hot, thin air and an engine malfunction.

Sigafoose was participating in the annual fly-in breakfast and air show sponsored by the Centerville Airport Commission and the Chamber of Commerce.
