ANNIE THOMPSON
Annie Estella Rutherford, daughter of Sarah White Rutherford and John Rutherford, was born on July 21st, 1871, near Ewart, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood and spent her years. She passed away Sunday morning, November 17th at the Community hospital at Grinnell, after having suffered a stroke at the home of her daughter, where occasionally she made her home after her health began to fail the past year.
She was united in marriage with Edward Thompson, November 2, 1891 at Newton, Iowa, and they spent 59 happy years together.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson lived their entire life on their farm south of Grinnell in the Jacob Switch community until Mr. Thompson's failing health made it necessary to leave and move to Grinnell, this was in 1949. The couple then moved to 623 Park street.
To this union were born three children, Bert of Grinnell, Fred C. of New Sharon, and Clara, Mrs. Will Beeler, who lives on the home place in the Jacob Switch community.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Methodist church at Grinnell, and also member of the Dorcas Sunday school class, the Rebekah and Pythian Lodge, Blue Point Friendship club, participating in these activities until prevented by failing health.
We shall remember her as a good neighbor, a faithful companion of her husband, a loving mother and grandmother who always looked forward to having her family around her, and also a true friend to all who knew her.
Surviving her passing are her three children, Bert, Fred, and Clara; six grandchildren, Ruth Goreham, Lyle Beeler, Max Thompson, Betty Wallace, Alfred and Gerald Thompson; fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a great many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two granddaughters, Dorotha Estella Beeler and Doris Mae Beeler Harter.
