MRS. CASSIE CRAVER

Cassie Fry, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.H. Fry, was born near Union Mills, Iowa, December 28th, 1858. Here she grew to womanhood and received her education in the rural schools of Union Township and the Oskaloosa high school. At the age of 18 years, Miss Fry began her work as teacher and taught in several districts in Mahaska County. In 1880, she was elected principal of the schools of Howard City, Nebraska and held this position several years. She taught in the schools of New Sharon a few years with much success. In 1900 she began her work in the City schools in Des Moines, making her home with her sister, Mrs. John Keefner. She also taught school for a time in Searsboro, Iowa.

Miss Fry was a lady of a great deal of dignity and a commanding personality, that made her a natural disciplinarian and won for her the respect and obedience of her pupils. In speaking to her sister, Mrs. Keefner, recently, about her school work, she said, "Jess, I always taught good citizenship." Her cardinal principles in teaching were "Loyality to humanity, loyality to country, loyalty to Christ." These she taught by both percept and example, and as a teacher and instructor, she was considered among the best.

In 1906, Miss Fry was married to Mr. T.S. Craver of near Searsboro. Here in her farm home Mrs. Craver was a dutiful helpmate and loving wife. Her health failed a year ago and she had been at the Iowa Sanitarium in Nevada, Iowa for some time in hope of regaining it when her summons came rather unexpectedly, Tuesday night, August 30th.

Funeral services were held in New Sharon, Thursday, September 1st, in the M.E. church where Mrs. Craver had been a consistent member. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Zimmerman, and the remains were taken to Grinnell for interment.

Mrs. Craver is survived by her husband, Mr. T.S. Craver and nine sisters and brothers. The sisters and brothers are Mrs. Cora Klinker of Arkansas, Anna Kenyon, of Kansas, Seward, of Grinnell, Willis of Des Moines, Mrs. "Date" Gregson of Montezuma, R.M. and A.E. Nye, Montezuma, Mrs. John F. Keefner of Des Moines, Paul T. of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. John Alspaugh of Pasadena, California. One sister, Mary Klinker died several years ago.
