JOHN L. HAND

John L. Hand, age 78 of Brooklyn, formerly of Malcom, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at his home following a lengthy illness. Per his wishes, a private family service was held Sunday, March 14, 2010. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn was in charge of arrangements.

John is survived by his mother, Elsie Hand; his children, John M. Hand, Jr (Rose) of Wisconsin, Chris Hand (Crissie) of Grinnell, Mary Brannian (Allen) of Brooklyn, Lisa Lasley (Kenneth) of Grinnell and Kandie Mooneyham (Tom) of Jefferson City, MO; fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mildred Dolezal and a brother LaVerne Hand, both of Tama.

He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers Frank and Floyd, a daughter Victoria and a granddaughter, Melissa.

John Louis Hand was born September 29, 1931 in Tama County, Iowa, the son of Floyd Leonard and Elsie Rohach Hand. He graduated from Tama High School in 1948 and attended the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years stationed in Texas. John married Roberta Mae Jones. They later divorced. He farmed for many years, was a seed corn dealer and also an insurance salesman. John was a member of the Tama American Legion and the Tama Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and mushroom hunting.
