The Grinnell Herald (Grinnell, Iowa) Dec. 7, 1888

--Capt. Sam'l Bucknam died very suddenly at his home yesterday forenoon, a little before 11 o'clock. The funeral services will be conducted at the family residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, by the Rev. W.P. Payne, of Nevada. Capt. Bucknam has been a resident of Grinnell for about fifteen years. He was born in the year 1812. He has been a great sufferer from rheumatism for a number of years, which was probably the cause of his sudden demise. He was a seafaring man for many years and had sailed pretty generally about the world. He was a well informed man, of sound judgment, and in his younger days a man of stirring business habits.
