FEB. 18 CAR CRASH HERE CLAIMS VICTIM

A young Grinnell area man, injured in a one-car accident Feb. 18th on highway 146 just inside the city limits, succumbed to his injuries Saturday.

He was Albert M. Grattan, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Grattan of Rte. 3, Grinnell, and he thus became Poweshiek county's third traffic fatality of 1964.

Alone in his auto at the time of the wreck, Grattan had just entered the city limits from the north when his car suddenly spun out of control.

Following the accident, he had been a patient at the University hospital in Iowa City. He had been unconscious much of the time. Only last Friday, he had been returned to a Grinnell rest home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Chester Congregational church. The Rev. George M. Richter will officiate and James-Schalinske Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Iowa Children's Home Society.

The son of Leland and Stephanie Camp Grattan, he was born Oct. 30th, 1939, at Grinnell. He attended the Grinnell schools, graduating with the high school class of 1958.

In 1960, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years. Following his discharge, he farmed with his brother.

In addition to his parents, he is also survived by two brothers, Worthin and Gordon; his sister, Julie; and his grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Camp at Oak Park, Ill.

He was a member of the Chester Congregational church and the American Legion.
