STEPHANIE GRATTAN

Stephanie L. Grattan, 88, of Grinnell died Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Kenneth D. Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud, and vocalists will be Delmar and Norma Sharp.

Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren, Edward, Brian and Howard Grattan; Lynn Nixon; and Ryan Wilson. Burial will be at a later date at Chester Cemetery.

The body was deeded to the University of Iowa College of Medicine's anatomy department.

The daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Morse Camp, she was born Jan. 12, 1911, in Weiser, Idaho. She was raised in Weiser and was a graduate of Weiser High School. She attended college in Montana and taught school for a year.

She moved to Grinnell in 1932 and was a 1934 graduate of Grinnell College. She then was employed as a caseworker for the Iowa Department of Social Welfare.

She was married to Leland G. Grattan Jan. 12, 1936, in Billings, Mont. They farmed in Chester Township until 1962, then lived in Maquoketa before moving to Newton in 1964. Mrs. Grattan continued as a social worker for the state until her retirement in 1976. She moved to Grinnell in 1980.

She was a member of the Chester Church and also attended the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational. She was a member of the Farm Bureau and was active in community work and with the Iowa Children's Home society in Des Moines.

Survivors include three children, Worthin of Grinnell, Gordon of Bondurant and Julie Colburn of Parkersburg; two sisters, Estelle Childers of Riverside, Calif., and Gertrude Braun of Pleasantville, Tenn.; one brother, Charles Camp of Mt. Baldy, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son, Albert.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
