LAVINIA GRATTAN DIES THURSDAY, SERVICES TODAY

Mrs. Lavinia Williams Grattan of Rte. 3, Grinnell, who celebrated her 94th birthday only last Tuesday, died Thursday evening following an extended illness.

Following cremation, memorial services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Chester Center Congregational church with the Rev. Roland Wendell officiating. James-Schalinske Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Vocal music at the services was furnished by Mrs. Merle Harris and Mrs. Louis Fuller. They were accompanied by Mrs. Fred Weaver, Jr. Donations in memory of Mrs. Grattan may be sent to the Piney Wood School in Braxton, Miss., or given to Warren Ryan.

The daughter of Albert G. and Eliza Blair Williams, she was born on Jan. 10th, 1867, in Chester Township. She was a graduate of the state college in Ames with the class of 1893.

In February of 1894, she was united in marriage with John Grattan. Following their marriage they made their home in Medford, Okla., and in 1902 moved to Colorado. They returned to Iowa in 1919 and in 1936 moved to Campbell, Calif. In 1958 she returned to Iowa to make her home with her son Leland in Chester Township.

Besides her son Leland, she is also survived by her sons Worthin, Henry and Ralph, all of the San Jose, Calif. area. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son Eugene in 1940.
