MRS. KELLENBARGER PASSES AWAY

Mrs. J.H. Kellenbarger, a resident of Grinnell for many years, passed away Friday afternoon at her home in Des Moines at an advanced age. Brief funeral services were held there this morning and the body was brought to Grinnell early this afternoon and services were conducted on the green hill by the cannon where Memorial Day services are held. Mr. Kellenbarger was a member of G.A.R. and this spot was hallowed both to him and his wife. Mrs. Margery W. Bouma sang and the pallbearers were Frank Marvin, Herbert Hutchison, Robert Wells, J.L. Fellows. O.J. Worcester and Fred Whitaker. The services were conducted by Rev. H.C. Rice, former pastor of the Grinnell Baptist church.

Josephine Elliott Kellenbarger was born January 5, 1847, at Washington, Iowa, where she spent her childhood. Later the family moved to Pella, Iowa, where she was baptized in December, 1859, by her father, the Reverend William Elliott. As a student at Central University, she became acquainted with John Hilary Kellenbarer, to whom she was married March 1, 1868. To this union three daughters were born, Stella, Lucetta, and Leota.

In 1869 Mrs. Kellenbarger moved with her husband and baby daughter to a farm five miles south of Kellogg, Jasper county, where the family resided for 24 years.

In the fall of 1893 the family moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where Mrs. Kellenbarger lived in one home for over 37 years. She was a member of the First Baptist church. She was widowed in 1923.

In September, 1930, Mrs. Kellenbarger and her daughter, Leota, moved to Des Moines, where they have since resided.

Mrs. Kellenbarger died June 30, 1933. She is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. A.E. Wimmer of Philadelphia, Miss Lucetta Kellenbarger of Modesto, California, and Miss Leota Kellenbarger; one granddaughter, Gail; a brother, W.C. Elliott of Mason City, Nebraska; and a sister, Miss Ida B. Elliott of Oakland, California.
