LAST RITES SAID FOR RAY WYLIE

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home for Ray Wylie, 76, of 1517 Summer St., who died June 7 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

The Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated at the services. Organist was Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers wer Ross Wylie, Elwood Burlingame, Dale McFarlin, Don Kiester, Michael Kiester and Britt Adair.

Military graveside services were conducted by the ceremonial unit of the Grinnell American Legion, Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 and Commander W.K. Richardson and Chaplain Jack Day.

Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery at Brooklyn.

The son of Alec and Agnes Paul Wylie, Mr. Wylie was born May 29, 1894, at Hartwick, Iowa. He received his education in the schools of this community and lived all of his life in the Brooklyn and Grinnell communities.

During World War I he served with the U.S. Army with Company D of the 88th Infantry.

In 1920 he married Mary McCosh and to this union one son, Donald, was born. His wife and son both preceded him in death. On Oct. 9, 1950, he married Gwendolyn McFarlin at Carroll, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for three years. In 1953 they retired and moved to Grinnell.

Mr. Wylie was active in the ASC, the Farm Bureau and for 13 years was associated with the DeKalb Agricultural Association as a seed salesman. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn; a step-son, Dale McFarlin of Davenport; a step-daughter, Monana? Keister of Mitchellville; four sisters--Edith Wylie and Lavina Berry of Winfield, Kan., Ella Burlingame of Albia and Adda Kline of Onmond Beach, Fla.; his brother, Everett Wylie of Lincoln, Neb., and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wylie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, two brothers, Leslie and David, and a sister, Maude.
