MARVIN S. "MIKE" CUMMINGS, 67

Marvin Scott "Mike" Cummings, 67, of Malcom died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at his home of a liver ailment. Funeral services for Mr. Cummings were held Aug. 16 at the Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. E.W. "Duffy" Meads, Hospice chaplain, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud and soloist was Courtney Cummings. Pallbearers were Lucas Mann, Shamus Wells, Dustin Cummings, Roger Griffith, Robert Hunter and Ray Hunter. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice.

The son of John Scott and Irma Marvin Cummings, he was born July 23, 1935, in Malcom where he was raised. He was a 1953 graduate of Malcom High School. He was married to Marilyn Hunter on January 29, 1955, in Grinnell and the couple farmed near Malcom for many years. They moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas in 1989, where they operated Irene's Ice Cream Shop for several years. They returned to Malcom in 1998. For many years the couple wintered in Arizona. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and a past board member of the Malcom Co-op.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of Malcom; three children, Vicki Van Renterghem of Brooklyn, Teresa Wells of Grinnell and Marty Cummings of Malcom; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. His parents; one sister, Ella Mae Griffith; and a son-in-law, David Mann, preceded him in death.
