Republican:--Thomas James was born in Nicholas county, Kentucky, October 16th, 1805, died in Poweshiek county, Iowa, May 1st, 1898, aged 92 years, six months and 15 days. In 1834 he moved to Montgomery county, Indiana, and from there in 1849 he moved to Mahaska county, Iowa, remaining there one year. In 1850 he came to Poweshiek county, where he has resided ever since. He was a member of and a local preacher in the United Brethren church for many years. He leaves four children, two sons, John W. James, of Colorado, and Henry B. James, of Carroll, Iowa; and two daughters, Mrs. Lizzie E. Bryan and Miss Mary Ellen James, of Union township.
