AN OBITUARY OF MRS. FISTER

Eliza J. Fister, daughter of G.W. and Mary Hoover, was born in Clearfield county, Pa., Sept. 30, 1837, and departed this life Dec. 23, being 94 years, 3 months and 23 days old.

She was united in marriage Sept. 7, 1854, to John Fister and to this union were born nine children, an infant and one daughter having preceded their mother, also the husband, many years ago.

Those left to mourn a beloved mother are William, who has been staying with his mother at home, Elmer of Grinnell, Johnny of Newton, Mrs. J. Abernathy, Mrs. Ed Twitchell and George of Chicago, also Mrs. Dan Regan of Oakdale, Wash., who was unable to attend. Mrs. Twitchell was also unable to be there owing to her health.

Mrs. Fister was one of a large family of which there are three sisters left, namely, Mrs. Etta Campbell of Grinnell; Mrs. Mathilda Ashell of Bellwood, Pa., and Mrs. Ascell Van Fleet of Minneapolis, Minn.

Mrs. Fister has been a resident of Grinnell for close to 40 years having come from Pennsylvania with her husband and children, first to a home near Davenport in Scott county, later moving to a place southwest of Grinnell where her infant daughter and husband passed away. She and her family then moved to Chicago where she worked hard to raise the children, later coming to Grinnell where she has since resided.

She has been a much loved mother, relative and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a hard worker and one of her favorite saying was that "Hard work never hurt anybody."

She was a member of the old Friends church and was in faithful attendance until late years when her age and health kept her more at home but in her heart she was ever faithful.

The pall bearers were V.G. Preston, Elmer Dawkins, Chas. Horak, Walter Neely, A.M. Burton and Ross Work.
