MRS. ELIZABETH EVANS HANDY

Elizabeth Evans Handy was born in Herfordshire, England, June 28, 1821. She early became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist churh and was a faithful member till her decease.

She was married April 4, 1853, to William Handy in Westbromwich, England, where for ten years they made their home, removing in 1863 to Dudley, England. Here she resided until in 1901 her son, Elias Handy, brought her to this state.

There were born to this union seven children, six boys and one girl. Three of these died in childhood. The four surviving are George H., of Upton-on-Severn, England; Rev. Elias, of Grinnell, Iowa; Elijah,of Manchester, England, and John, of Boston, Mass.

Mrs. Handy has been a semi-invalid for many years, chronic bronchitis being her chief ailment, which became much less severe on her removal to this climate.

She passed away as one who went to sleep, on the evening of May 25, 1909. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage by Dr. T.B. Hughes, and interment took place in Hazelwood cemetery.
