RUSSELL STATE

Another Grinnell boy who lost his life in World War II is coming home.

The body of Corporal Russell State, U.S. Marine corps, who was killed in a jeep accident in Tsing Tao, China, has arrived in this country and will be brought to Grinnell Wednesday evening on the Rock Island train due from the west at 8:27 p.m.

The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the James Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Harold Bomhoff. Pallbearers will be cousins. Military services at the grave in Hazelwood cemetery will be in charge of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Legion will furnish the firing squad and the V.F.W. will provide a color guard.

Corporal State was the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. State of 1024 Chatterton street. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines corps Feb. 13, 1943, and went through the Iwo Jima campaign with the Third division, also seeing service on Guadalcanal and Guam. Transferred to the Sixth division he went to China. The order which would have sent him home for discharge arrived on the evening of the same day which witnessed the accident which caused his death.
