CRISWELL

Joint funeral services for Mrs. Clora Criswell and her daughter, Mrs. Maxine Brown, were held at the Steffy Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 5, with Mr. James Reyer officiating. Music was provided by soloist Dennis Pelley and organist Miss Alice Underwood.

Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery. Casket bearers for Mrs. Criswell were Kim Criswell, Gary Criswell, Randy Criswell, Danny Robinson, Jim Criswell, John Criswell, Rodney Criswell and Steven Criswell. Casket bearers for Mrs. Brown were Roy Criswell, Rex Criswell, Larry Criswell, Ray Criswell, Bob Criswell, Howard Criswell and Bernard Criswell.

Mrs. Criswell, 88 died Nov. 1 in an Algona hospital and Mrs. Brown, 60, died later the same day in a Rochester, Minn. hospital. Both women died from injuries received earlier in the day in a two-car traffic accident near Algona.

Mrs. Criswell was the daughter of William and Cynthia Elam. She was born Aug. 11, 1892 at Mt. Pisgah, Ky. She was married to John Arthur (Bud) Criswell on Sept. 19, 1914. They moved to Iowa early in their marriage. They had five children.

She is survived by four of five children and their spouses, Sterlie and Betty Criswell of Harriman, Tenn., Freeman and Mildred Criswell of Montezuma, Dixie and Clarence Orr of Glenview, Ill. and Kenneth and Grace Criswell of Monticello, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a twin brother, Claude Elam of New Sharon; two sisters, Wilma Cooper of Mendham, N.J. and Lola Crowder of Newton; and another brother, Earl Elam of Brashear, Mo.

Her husband died March 13, 1971. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Nona Sheley, Zona Powell and Myrtle Gross, and a brother, Menzo Elam.

Dorothy Marie Brown, the daughter of John (Bud) and Clora Criswell, was born Sept. 20, 1920 at Lynnville. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1940 and was married to Leo Brown of Fontanelle in 1941. While he was in service during World War II the couple lived at Cape Cod, Mass. Following his discharge from the service the couple returned to Iowa and lived at Fontanelle, Dana and Mallard.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Mac (Rebecca) Campbell of West Union, Cynthia Brown of Fayette and Barry Brown of Keokuk; three grandchildren, Kim and Keri Campbell and Bryan Brown; a sister and three brothers.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
