ALLAN M. ASHBY

Allan M. Ashby, 65, of Davenport, formerly of Grinnell, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at his home.

A memorial service was held Thursday, July 17, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport. A private burial and graveside service were to be held at a later date at the Pennington Cemetery in Sigourney, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his family.

The son of Harry and Virginia Redding Ashby, he was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Grinnell. He was united in marriage with Linda K. Parker in Grinnell on Aug. 25, 1962. He later married Jean L. Appleget Mateer on Dec. 5, 1984. She preceded him in death in May 2001. He was self-employed as a financial advisor and operated Executive Financial Planning. He was a member of the Davenport Eagles Club and Eldridge Lions Club and a volunteer with the Eldridge Fire Department.

He is survived by his parents, Harry and Virginia Ashby of Grinnell, three sons, Mark Ashby of Eldridge and Scott Ashby and Loren Ashby, both of Davenport; a step-daughter, Tammy Flack of DeWitt; three step-sons, Mike Mateer of Sigourney; Rick Mateer of Olathe, Kan.; and Randy Mateer of Norwalk; one sister and two brothers, Miriam Schultz, Darrell Ashby and Gordon Ashby, all of Grinnell, and 27 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda; his second wife, Jean and one son, Gary.
