GERALD J. BAUSTIAN

Gerald J. Baustian, 76, of North Platte, Neb., formerly of Grinnell, died Nov. 25 of injuries he sustained in a one-car accident near Lincoln, Neb.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Revs. William Reynolds and Maynard Brothersen officiating. Music was provided by organist Kyle Szary and St. Mary's Choir.

The son of Lester L. and Mary K. Schwartz Baustian, he was born March 23, 1922, in Grinnell. He was a 1941 graduate of Grinnell High School. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was married to Rita Brothersen Aug. 7, 1950, in Victor, and the couple farmed in Poweshiek County before moving to Columbia, Mo., in 1974. In 1977 he moved to North Platte where he worked with his brother at Coast to Coast. He retired in 1988, then worked part time in the maintenance department at Linden Manor in North Platte.

Mr. Baustian was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North Platte and the Grinnell Elks Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Rita of Grinnell; seven children, Gerald Baustian Jr. of La Mesa, Calif., Teresa Baustian of Des Moines, Kathleen Baustian of Des Moines, Diane Burke of Chesterfield, Mich., Leslie Pijut of Dittmer, Mo., Loretta Baustian of Chicago and Jennifer Hartz of Grinnell; six grandchildren; and one brother, Harlan of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Richard and Daniel.

A Gerald J. Baustian Memorial Fund has been established.
