HARLAN J. HILLMAN

Harlan J. Hillman, 91, died March 9, 1988, in St. Elizabeth, Mo.

He was born on June 26, 1896, the son of William Harlan and Ida May Wherry Hillman. He attended rural school in Lincoln Township near Deep River, Ia., and later Iowa State College at Ames. He married Myra Hollingsworth on August 22, 1922, at Deep River. Harlie and Myra were active in Farm Bureau, community activities and the Deep River Presbyterian Church. He was always interested in progressive farming and especially conservation techniques. They moved to Conway, Ark., in 1955 and developed real estate there. He lived in Conway for 28 years and was a member of the Conway Presbyterian Church. In 1983 he moved to Oak Tree Villa, a retirement home in Jefferson City, Mo., and later to the St. Elizabeth Care Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myra, in 1977; two brothers: Cecil and Verne and one sister, Margaret Hillman.

Harlie is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Virginia and Harry Pierce of Deep River and Margaret and Gale Plagmann of Arroyo Grande, Ca.; one son and his wife: James and Virginia Hillman of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, from the United Church, Deep River. Rev. Cloyd Bishop officiated. "Abide With Me" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung by Marilyn Warwick and Gwen Rieck. Hazel Wyant was pianist. Casket bearers were Casey Pierce, John Hillman, Tom Plagmann, Tim Easton, David Woodward, David Plagmann and Joe Dominique. Interment was in Guernsey Cemetery, Guernsey, Ia. Arrangements were by Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, Ia. Memorials may be made to United Church, Deep River, Ia. 52222.
