DIED IN KANSAS

The following notice of the death of Joseph Farmer, an old time resident here, will be read with sadness by our older residents, many of whom had personal acquaintance with deceased, who visited here a couple of years ago. The obituary, clipped from the Osborne County Farmer follows:

Joseph Farmer was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Nov. 7, 1833, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.D. Ely, east of Osborne, June 8, 1911, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 1 day. On Aug. 7, 1854, he was united in marriage to Sarah Ann Cox. To this union ten children were born, four of whom, with the wife, preceded him in death.

In the fall of 1853 he moved to Iowa, where he resided until 1882, when he moved to Kansas and settled near Axtell, Marshall county. Seven months ago he came to Osborne county where he made his home with his children. About forty-seven years ago he was converted and united with the Presbyterian church of Deep River, Ia., of which he was ruling elder for a number of years. When he moved to Axtell he was received by letter into the Presbyterian church and remained a faithful member until death. He served as ruling elder of the Axtell church for a number of years.

Besides the six children he leaves twenty-eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his death.

Short services were held at the Ely home Friday evening at 8 o'clock, conducted by Dr. J.C. Miller of Osborne. Saturday morning the remains were taken to Axtell for interment, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Ely, George and Allen Farmer and S.E. Farmer, who arrived Friday from Bonham, Texas, where he is at work. Mrs. E.C. Seaman was unable to go on account of ill health. Funeral services were conducted from the Axtell Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon and interment was made in the Axtell cemetery.
