VIRGIL WRIGHT SERVICES HELD
Virgil L. Wright, 60, of Tama, formerly of Grinnell, died Wedneday, Sept. 11, at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dewey Grimes of the Tama Assembly of God Church officiating. Pallbearers were Clark Brink, Rex Criswell, Robert Criswell, Leonard Hendrickson, Carl Henning and George Reed. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery here.
Memorials in Mr. Wright's name may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Edward Bryan and Mary Helen Walters Wright, he was born Nov. 17, 1924, at Lockwood, Mo. At an early age, he moved with his family to Grinnell and attended school here.
Mr. Wright worked briefly with a Grinnell tire-recapping firm, then joined his father in a house-moving business, continuing in the business for some 20 years. He then worked as an independent trucker and had made his home in Tama since 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Tama; his mother, Mary Wright of Grinnell; five children, Leon and Sheldon of Tulsa, Okla., Roger of Iowa City, and Bobbi Sue Harvey and Michelle Wright, both of Pleasanville; two step-children, Brenda McMurray of Grinnell and Jeffrey McMurray of Toledo; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Edward of Onalaska, Texas; and two sisters, Florence Bell of Grinnell and Adelma Mun of Golden, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Elmer and Raymond; and one sister, Katherine.
