JAMES REAGEN RITES TODAY

James J. Reagen, 85, of 1019 Broad St., died Thursday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.

He was born in Geneva, N.Y., July 4, 1888, one of a family of 10 children of John and Bridget Ivers Reagen. He attended the schools of Geneva and Syracuse, N.Y., and later attended pressman's school at the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minn.

During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was married to Jessie V. Quire on July 3, 1919, in Grinnell. The couple had four children, two of whom survive: Mrs. Frank A. (Ruth) Lucas of Arvada, Colo., and James K. Reagen of Grinnell.

Mr. Reagen had worked for The Grinnell Herald-Register for 22 years before retiring in 1944, when his health began to fail. He continued to help at The Herald-Register from time to time in operating the press during large press runs.

Except for a few years when the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., Mr. Reagen had been a resident of Grinnell since 1912. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Focht-Tennant Post. No. 53 of the American Legion, Grinnell.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie; his two children; four grandchildren, S-Sgt. Michael V. Pearson of the U.S. Air Force in England, Holly and Timothy Pearson of Arvada, and Steven Baker of Colorado Springs; and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Robinson of Syracuse. He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, four sisters and four brothers.

The Mass of the Resurrection for James J. Reagen was held at 10 a.m. today (Monday, March 18) at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. L.V. Kuebrich, pastor of the church, officiating. Pallbearers were Don Ent, Robert Maring, Perry Mortland, Bernard Schmitz, Arnold Schulte, and James Webb. Veterans graveside rites were presented by Don Baker, commander, and W.K. Richardson, chaplain, and members of the Veterans Ceremonial Unit. The Vigil Service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home.
