VEDA HYDE RITES TODAY
Veda B. Hyde, 79, of 1331 West St., Grinnell, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 30, at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert C. Smith officiating. Organist was Edward Bohstedt, and pallbearers were George Christinson, Paul Christinson, Don Fleener Harold Fleener, Louis Fleener and Arthur Schooley. Honorary bearers were Vern and Marilyn Brooke, Donovan and Patty Evans, Edward and Lucille Nikkel, Ralph and Norma Spooner and Harold and Hazel Stanley.
Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church.
The daughter of Arthur and Telatha Reeves Fleener, she was born on Feb. 25, 1902, near Searsboro. She moved with her family to the Maple Grove neighborhood southeast of Grinnell, attended rural school in the Maple Grove area, and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1921. She taught in rural school.
She was married to George A. Hyde on Nov. 10, 1921. The couple farmed until moving to Grinnell in 1972. Mrs. Hyde was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for several years. She was also a member of the Isabella Brand Guild, the Brande Bible Class, Hopeful Barracks Auxiliary of the World War I Veterans, and the F.E.C.U. Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Alice Harter of Des Moines; three grandchildren; three sisters, Vera Christinson and Viola Watkins, both of Grinnell, and Nellie Van Almkerk of Rochester, N.Y., and one brother, Ralph Fleener of rural Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979 and two brothers, Woodrow and Everton Fleener.
