HAROLD L. FLEENER
Harold L. Fleener, 70, of 13007 Justice Ave., Grinnell, died of cancer Friday, March 27, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the First Friends Church, with the Rev. Keith Briggs officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalists were Delmar and Norma Jean Sharp.
Casket bearers were George Christianson, Paul Christinson, Art Fleener, Don Fleener, Louis Fleener, Greg Muckler, Art Schooley and Phil Schooley. Honorary bearers were Lloyd Durr, Kenton Elliott, David Gertsma, Vernon Graham, Harold Meeker, Dave Schooley, Ron Schooley and Bernie Vander Pol.
Graveside services were conducted by members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery. The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was the son of Everton and Esther Renshaw Fleener and was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Grinnell. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school, later graduating from Grinnell High School.
He was married to Ruth M. Parmley Feb. 22, 1947, in Grinnell. They lived in Rock Creek Township west of Grinnell, operating a grain and livestock farm. Mr. Fleener served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Victor Grange and the Jasper County Sheep Producers. For over 40 years he was chairman of the Rock Creek Township Board of Trustees, and for 10 years he served on the Jasper County Veterans Affairs Commission.
Surviving are his wife and one brother, Dennis of Grinnell.
