EVERTON ROY FLEENER
Everton Roy Fleener was born at Searsboro, April 18, 1903, the son of the late Arthur Fleener and Telatha Reeves Fleener, who survives. He died Wednesday, July 25, at a Grinnell hospital after a long illness of cancer.
He was married March 26, 1927, at Albert Lea, Minn., to Esther Renshaw. He spent his lifetime in Poweshiek county, where he was a farmer and a salesmamn. He was a member of the First Friends church.
He is survived by his wife and mother and two sons, Harold and Dennis, both of Grinnell; a brother, Ralph; and four sisters, Mrs. Veda Hyde, Mrs. Vera Christinson, Mrs. Viola Schooley and Mrs. Nellie Cooper, all of Grinnell.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, at the Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles O. Whitely, D.D., officiated. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy Criswell, John Jelsma, Valentine Krumm, Paul McConnell, Ed McNally and Donald Sparks. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hyde and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Decatur.
Farming was his chief occupation until his health became impaired and he took up salesmanship which he followed for his remaining years. He was last employed by the John Deere agency of Grinnell and enjoyed his work very much because he liked meeting people and took great pleasure in the many contacts he made. He was quite successful in his chosen work.
Everton was forced to quit last October when it became imperative that he undergo surgery in an attempt wo check the disease which later was the cause of his death. He was confined to his bed last February and was lovingly cared for by his faithful wife and family. When it became impossible to no longer care for him in the home, he was moved to Community hospital where, from April on, everything humanly possible was done to alleviate his suffering and make him as comfortable as possible. It was here that he passed away peacefully last Wendesday after a short, but useful life.
