'LINDY' WELLHOUSE

Caroline "Lindy" Wellhouse, 80, of Rossmoor at Walnut Creek, Calif., who operated a portrait photography studio here for 23 years, died of cancer Sunday, May 12.

A private family service was held, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka, Kan.

She was the daughter of Henry and Carrie Reimers of Gladbrook. She was a graduate of Gladbrook High School, attended Iowa State University, completed a secretarial course and was then employed as a secretary at Iowa state and at the University of Iowa.

After her marriage to Olin Wellhouse, she studied portrait photography at New Haven, Conn. They subsequently operated portrait studios in Grinnell and Ames.

In 1972, she accepted a position with the Lisle Ramsey organization of St. Louis as director of photography, conducting photographic seminars throughout the country until 1976 when the Wellhouses retired and moved to Sedona, Ariz.
After the death of her husband, she moved to Leisure World at Laguna Hills, Calif.

Mrs. Wellhouse was awarded the Professional Photographers of America's degrees of master of photography and photographic craftsman. She was the first woman to be elected president of the Iowa Professional Photographers Association and to win the Medlar Award for the highest award print at the Iowa Photographers Convention, winning the award for three consecutive years. In 1977, she was awarded the Honorary Fellowship Degree by the Iowa association.

She was the recipient of several awards at regional and national conventions. In 1976, she was invited to appear on the national platform at the Professional Photographers of American convention in Chicago.

Surviving are a son, Max of North Little Rock, Ark., and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978.
