EVELYN M. SHEELER
Evelyn M. Sheeler, 78, of Grinnell died of a respiratory ailment Thursday, Dec. 30, at St. Francis Manor.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel I. Ogata officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler, and casket bearers will be Kevin Lincoln and Dave, Ken, Mike, Randy and Steve McCurry. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
The family will meet with friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Grinnell to Fred H. and Mae Lincoln McCurry. She was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools.
On Oct. 26, 1945, she was married to Alvin Carl Sheeler in Grinnell. She worked for various Grinnell restaurants. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a cook for McCurry's Cafe.
She was a member of the Grinnell Firemen's Auxiliary and the Grinnell American Legion.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Carstens of Des Moines and Susan Springer of Lake Forest, Calif.; one grandson; and three brothers, C.J. "Duke" and Gene McCurry, both of Grinnell, and Jerry McCurry of Knoxville.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Manor.
