MRS. ALONZO HALSTEAD PASSES
Ida Mae Cooper, daughter of Albert and Sina Ellen Cooper, was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, July 22, 1862. Death came at 10:15 p.m. August 28, 1933.
During the first years of her life she and her mother lived with the grandparents, as her father was serving in the Civil war.
She was married to Alonzo Halstead December 30, 1880. To this union were born eight children: Eva L. of Hedrick, Pearl A. of Newton, Leonard A. of Grinnell, Raymond W. of Des Moines, Glen H. of Chicago, Helen R., deceased, Mildred Ellen of Gilman, and Gladys I. of Lincoln. Nebr.
She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Frances Baxter of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Mae Clindinin of Oakfield, New York, and two brothers, Ed Cooper of Fremont, and Earl Cooper of Lead, S.D.
The first years of her married life were spent near Coal Creek, Iowa. In 1903, she with her husband and family, moved to a farm near Grinnell. Later the family moved to Grinnell where she lived the remainder of her life. Her husband preceded her in death by eight years.
For the last six years she has been in failing health. On August 4 she fell and fractured her hip. From this and other complications she never recovered.
A short prayer service was held from the home of her son, Leonard, at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, followed by services from the Methodist church, with Rev. E.M. Vittum in charge. Two songs, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "We Are Going Down the Valley," were sung by Anna Mae and Donald Schooley. Pallbearers were J.L. McIlrath, Dean Eichhorn, Norman Pilgrim, Charles Stanley, Will Alley and P.A. Madill. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cooper and daughter of Fremont; Mr. and Mrs. John White, Mr. and Mrs. John Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cooper, Mr. and Mrs. Burley Riddle, all of What Cheer; Mrs. M.J. Pollard, Sr., of Lincoln, Nebr., and Mr. and Mrs. MacIntire of Des Moines.
