MRS. BITCON DIES
SERVICES FRIDAY

Mrs. Katharine King Bitcon, nearly 67, wife of John Harold (Harry) Bitcon, 1228 West St., Grinnell, died early Wednesday morning at Grinnell General Hospital East. She had been in failing health the last three days.

The daughter of John W. and Ella King Kettle, Mrs. Bitcon was born Sept. 5, 1901 at San Francisco. Her father was a Methodist minister and the family lived in Washington, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rushville, Ill., where she graduated from high school in 1918. She then majored in music at McMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill.

Her father died in 1921 and in 1926 Mrs. Bitcon and her mother moved to Grinnell where she worked at Grinnell College as assistant to the College Treasurer.

On Dec. 9, 1935, Mrs. Bitcon was married to John Harold Bitcon who survives.

Mrs. Bitcon worked for the past 14 years as field assessor for the City of Grinnell. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church where she was a past president of the WSCS and has been a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Rebekahs and the Pythian Sisters. She was a Charter member of the Omega Sigma club.

Survivors include her husband; a cousin, Mrs. Margaret Saum of Kellogg, a nephew, Raymond Bitcon of Mason City; and a brother-in-law, William Bitcon of Grinnell.

Mrs. Bitcon was preceded in death by her father and her mother in 1952.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bitcon will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. J. Eugene Young, officiating.

Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner. Pallbearers will be Keith Gregory, Fred J. Johnson, Darrell Keenan, Burrson Farmer, Elmer Burnson and Ward Schmidt. Flower bearers will be Mrs. Ida Burnson, Mrs. Robert Mitchell, Mrs. Keith Gregory and Mrs. Darrell Keenan.

Burial will be in Plesant Township Cemetery at Ewart.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Friday and thereafter at the church.
