Wm. Hasselbrink Rites Conducted
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 16) at the Grinnell United Methodist Church for William H. Hasselbrink, 79, of 1434 Prairie St., who died Monday evening at Grinnell General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
The Rev. Robert Gamble, minister of the Bethel United Methodist Church, officiated at the services.
Music was provided by Mrs. Lehrl Fritz, organist, and Mrs. Clarence Renaud and Bernard Kooistra, vocalist. Flower bearers were Mrs. Gus Kaisand and Mrs. Leslie Trout.
Pallbearers were Marion Dale, Gael Ebert, Roger Hasselbrink, Verle Kooistra, Bob Lund and Arnold Reed.
Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The son of Chris and Amelia Schultz Hasselbrink, Mr. Hasselbrink was born Feb. 5, 1892, in Kellogg. He attended the local schools in Kellogg and near Laurel.
On Oct. 18, 1916, he married Elsie E. Henning at Newton. To this union seven children were born.
Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Jasper County until 1966 when they came to Grinnell to make their home.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; his seven children – Mrs. Tom (Virginia H.) Pratt of clarion, Donald C. of Grinnell, Edward A. of Woodbridge, N.J., Richard W. of Grinnell, Mrs. Charles (Doris A.) Bryan of Lynnville, Wayne H. of Grinnell and June E. of the family home; 19 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters – Mrs. Gus (Amelia) Ebert of Kellogg, Albert of Newton, Mrs. Elsie Reed of Kellogg, Hugo of Grinnell, Mrs. Elmer (Lela) Kooistra of Newton and Louis of Kellogg.
Mr. Hasselbrink was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers – Carl and Henry who died in infancy, and two half brothers – Andrew and John Lund.
