FUNERAL SERVICES FOR R.H. SOUTER HELD WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for Robert H. Souter were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Steffy Funeral Home at Montezuma. Rev. E.E. Beattie of the Ewart and the Grinnell Presbyterian Church officiating.

Mrs. Vera Copeland and Mrs. Nellie Farley sang "In The Garden" and "Some Time We'll Understand," accompanied by Mrs. Edna Jeffery.

Casketbearers were Earl Wells, Frank Wells, Millard Farmer, Lewis Baltisberger, Carmon Johnson and William Jeffery.

Interment was in the Masonic-Odd Fellows cemetery in Montezuma.

OBITUARY

Robert Henry Souter son of John and Agnes McMeekin Souter was born Sept. 6, 1879, on the farm 1-1/2 miles south of Ewart, where he resided at the time of his death. He lived all of his life on the family farm except for the first four years of his married life when he lived south of Grinnell for two years and then east of Montezuma for two years.

He attended Pleasant township schools and church and Sunday School at Ewart. He was a member of the IOOF lodge for a number of years and played in the lodge band for over 30 years.

He was united in marriage to Olivia B. Latcham on Aug. 27, 1906, at Des Moines, Iowa by the Rev. Chas. S. Medbury. To this union was born five sons and one daughter. He and Mrs. Souter celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Aug. 27, 1956.

In May of last year he entered the University Hospital at Iowa City, after a short stay he was able to return to his home. He entered a Grinnell hospital Nov. 3 of last year, passing away Feb. 17 at 6:30 a.m.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, his only sister, his only brother, and a nephew.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Olivia, his five sons: Clifford R., Carl M., at home, Leonard J. of Brooklyn, Donald R., of Grinnell and Robert Jr., of Deep River. Also four granddaughters and one grandson, two nephews and three nieces.
