MRS. SARAH A. LATCHAM FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Ann Latcham, wife of L.B. Latcham were held this afternoon from the family residence at 504 Main street, conducted by Rev. W.B. Wilson. Mrs. Latcham passed away Sunday morning of pneumonia. She was well-known in Grinnell and vicinity and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. Burial was in Hazelwood.
Sarah Ann Latcham was born at Clayton, New Jersey, Dec. 30, 1858. Her girlhood years were spent in this New Jersey home. Later she came to Iowa where in 1882 she was married to Leonard M. Latcham who survives her. Immediately after their marriage the young couple settled on a farm near Ewart in the vicinity of which they resided continuously until they moved to the present home in Grinnell.
Mrs. Latcham was the mother of five children all of whom are living except Clark, who died in 1917. Three of these, Mrs. Olivia Souter, Paul J., and Howard live near Grinnell and Mrs. Della Albright in Des Moines.
She became a Christian and united with the church when a girl and lived consistently in that faith to the end. When the Christian church was organized at Ewart she and her husband became members, but when that Congregation disbanded their membership was transferred to the Methodist church at that place. Her illness covered a period of about a year and a half ending in her passing away at her home in Grinnell, April 5, 1925 at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Mrs. Latcham was a good woman in the truest sense. While her life was cast in humble ways it was full of gentleness and trust. Many are mourning her going because of that kindly spirit that brightened life throughout her years, and made the world better because she lived and loved and labored here.
