N.H. MCILRATH FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY
Nathaniel Hugh McIlrath, son of Nathaniel Hugh and Agnes McIlrath, was born Mrch 1, 1882, at Hartwick and died Oct. 29, 1964 in Community hospital at Grinnell. He had lived in the Hartwick community until a few years ago when he moved to Brooklyn upon retirement from the farm. He has spent over 50 years as an auctioneer in the surrounding area.
He was united in marriage to Stella Ina Hakeman of Hartwick on Nov. 20, 1901. To this union were born eight children; Mrs. Fred (Leona) Martens of Chelsea; Clair of Brooklyn; Elven of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Bernard of Shellsburg; Floyd of Springfield, Mo.; Clifford of Shellsburg; Mrs. William (Evalena) Dale; and Mrs. Laurence (Lila) Foster of Brooklyn.
Besides his wife and eight children, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Craemer, Cleveland, Ohio; and Mrs. Agnes Bennett of Santa Monica, Calif.; 23 grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Ella Warnick and Mrs. Anna Shultz, and one brother, J.L. McIlrath.
He was a life-long member of the Hartwick Congregational church where he served faithfully.
Funeral services were held from the Hartwick Congregational church Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Cutbirth officiating, assisted by Rev. C.W. Woollard.
Two songs, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" and "Shall We Gather At the River?" were sung by Mrs. Calvin Korns and Mrs. Robert Cutbirth. Mrs. Everett Korns was organist. Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bees, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Ryan and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lynn.
Casketbearers were Calvin Korns, George Williams, Virgil Sherwood, Melvin Gray, Ralph Smith, Everett Korns, with burial in the Hartwick cemetery.
