Alma Lillian Manatt was born July 25, 1887, at Grinnell, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Manatt, and died July 17, 1922, at Clarks Grove, Minnesota, lacking only a few days of being 35 years old. Her mother died when she was only nine days old and her bringing up was taken in charge by her grandmother Manatt. She lived here in Grinnell and went to school.
On Thanksgiving day, 1906, she was married to Harry M. Porter, to which union was born one daughter, Velma, now aged 13 years. They lived for a time near Grinnell and New Sharon and moved to Minnesota some six years ago. She leaves in her own immediate family her husband and daughter, her father and grandmother, her stepmother and her half-brothers and sisters, Joel, George, Fred, Catherine Sage, Marie and Rachel and Randall.
She had always been somewhat frail in health. She was a member of the Methodist church and was a devoted wife and mother. There are a host of friends here in Grinnell and in her more recent home in Minnesota who join with deepest sympathy these sorrowing relatives.
The body was brought to Grinnell for burial. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the home of her father, Jeff Manatt, conducted by Rev. C.A. Carman.
