CONDUCT FUNERAL SERVICES TODAY FOR MATT KLINE
Matthew (Matt) A. Kline, 74, of Grinnell, died early Tuesday morning at a local hospital following an illness of the past year and a half.
Services were conducted this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester E. Custer, minister of the Methodist church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.
Pallbearers were Karl Eker, Lavern Kline, Lyle Goreham, Robert Ray, Robert Brown, and Clyde O'Hara. Honorary pallbearers were Truman Lynch, Bill Flanagan, Lyman Case, John Peters, Carl Binegar, and Kenneth Halstead. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
The son of James Addison and Nancy Taylor Kline, he was born Sept. 9th, 1888, on a farm in Washington Township, in Poweshiek county. He attended the local country schools in the Blue Point neighborhood.
On May 9th, 1907, he was united in marriage with Jennie Wilkinson at Montezuma. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Dorothy Mae) Chase of Grinnell, and Ina Fae Kline, who died Jan. 13th, 1960.
In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. Kline is survived by one grandson, Wayne Allen Chase of Grinnell; two brothers, F. Iver Kline of Chico, Calif., and William O. Kline of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Walter (Lora) Goreham of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daugher; a sister, Lena Sheehy several years ago; and a brother, Alba in 1957.
Mr. Kline had farmed in the Blue Point neighborhood until his retirement in 1945 when he and his wife moved to Grinnell. He then worked in carpentry and at the Grinnell Elks Lodge.
