Gordon E. Braley, 70, of Montezuma died Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Montezuma, with the Revs. George Salnave and Brad Braley officiating. Music was provided by soloist Rhonda Minner, pianist Marcy Bryan and organist Kathleen Ramsey.

Pallbearers wer Matthew Cheney, Bruce, Gary, Matthew and Brian Braley and Ed Wells. Honorary bearers were Don and Alice Renaud, Walter and Helen Rixen, Keith and Wilma Vosburg, and Dwight and Meda Carey.

Burial was in Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart, with the Watts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Clifford L. and Anetta B. McCormick Braley, he was born Sept. 21, 1924, near Ewart. He was a 1942 graduate of Montezuma High School. He entered the U.S. Merchant Marines at Kings Point, Long Island, serving until 1945.

On July 24, 1946, he was married to Madolyn Casey in Grinnell.

Mr. Braley farmed and managed the ASCS office for several years, retiring in 1978. The couple lived in Grinnell, then moved to Montezuma 10 years ago.

He was a member of the Montezuma School Board for several years and was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Montezuma, holding several church offices.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Kathy Counts of Gainesville, Fla., Susan Cheney of Montezuma and Barbara Himmel of Wenatchee, Wash.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou Staubus of Indianola; and one brother, Burton of Silver Sping, Md.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Presbyterian Church scholarship.
