RITES HELD FOR MRS. TORRANCE

Ada Benton Torrance, 81, died Tuesday, April 4, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

The daughter of Emery and Minnie Keysor Benton, she was born May 29, 1890, in Malcom.

She was married to Clark Latcham in January of 1912. The couple had two children and farmed in the Victor community until the death of Mr. Latcham in 1918. Mrs. Latcham was a nurse during the 1918 flu epidemic.

She was married to Walter Torrance of Hartwick in October of 1919. The couple had three children. They farmed in the Hartwick community, retiring in 1930. They operated a restaurant in Grinnell for awhile, until Mr. Torrance died in 1952. For the past six years, Mrs. Torrance had lived in Grinnell.

Mrs. Torrance is survived by one son, Claire Latcham of Phoenix, Ariz.; her daughters, Mrs. Fred (Lois) Van Renterghem of Brooklyn, Mrs. Basil (Irene) Houck of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Gaylen (Carol) Kensler of Marengo, and Mrs. William (Marilyn) Landon of Tucson; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Gwin of Grinnell and Mrs. Tess Byers of Seattle, Wash.; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three sisters; four brothers; one grandson; and two step-daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Sherwood and Mrs. Ruth Ostrom.

Funeral services for Mrs. Torrance were held Friday, April 7, at the McAninch Chapel in Victor with the Rev. Herbert Foxworthy officiating. Burial was in Hartwick cemetery.
