Harrison Lewis
Harrison Lewis was born Aug. 8, 1822 at Dryden, Tompkins County, New York and died at his home 1117 Spencer Street, May 30, 1906. He was married Feb. 2, 1843 to Miss Christianna M. Johnson and to this union eleven children were born. Six of them together with the mother, preceded him to the Better Land. He was married the second time to Mrs. Nancy J. Grenage at Grinnell on Feb. 6, 1889, who with the remaining children, the grand children and great grand-children and a host of friends are left to mourn his loss. He became a member of the Baptist church at an early age and lived a consistant Christian life ever since. His children are: Mrs. David Moore, H. L. Lewis, F. W. Lewis of this place: J. O. Lewis of Anisworth, Neb. and H. H. Lewis of Rosebush, Mich. He moved with his family to Grinnell Mar. 5, 1876 and has resided here ever since.
He had been in his usual health until 5:45 Monday evening when he was driving through town and a runaway team dashed into his buggy from the rear, throwing him to the ground. He was picked up in an unconscious condition from which he never rallied. After a hard struggle of 30 hours the end came peacefully at 1:20 Wednesday morning.
The Hearld joins a wide circle of friends in deep sympathy for the bereaved family and in sorrow over the loss of the familiar form.
