ELSIE ERWIN

Elsie Erwin, 96, formerly of Marshalltown and the Laurel area, died Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Marshall County Care Facility where she had lived for the past 2 1/2 years.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Chapel in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Neil Montz officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery at Laurel.

Born Aug. 9, 1899, in Poweshiek County, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Anna Burch Foster. She was married to William J. Erwin Feb. 4, 1920, near Newburg. They farmed in the Laurel area before moving to Marshalltown in 1958.

Mrs. Erwin was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church and the Ladies Guild of the church. She was a charter member of the Laurel American Legion Auxiliary, World War I Barracks and the Marshalltown Senior Citizens.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas of Newton, Clair of Marshalltown and Charles of Laurel; two daughters, Darlene Cross of Marshalltown and Donna Morley of Grinnell; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren adn 18 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers and four sisters.
