THOMAS ORR

Mr. Thomas Orr was born in Ireland March 2, 1846 and departed this life at six o'clock in the evening Feb. 4, 1918 aged 71 years, 11 months and 5 days.

Mr. Orr came to Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1866, and later to Poweshiek County, Iowa. It was here in this county in December of 1889 that he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Johnston. Mr. Orr was a successful farmer until 1910, when he retired, moving to South Brooklyn. It was here in this community that he spent the last eight years of his life.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, which order accompanied the body to its resting place and had charge of the services at the grave. The deceased became a member of the Methodist church in 1888,uniting with his wife at the Freemont appointment on the Malcom charge, during the ministry of Bro. Matt., now Bishop Hughes. His membership remained at the Freemont appointment until the day of his death.

Those left to mourn his loss are the wife, son, Clarence, two granddaughters, two brothers, Robert of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Fleming of Ireland, three sisters, Mrs. J.J. Sloan of Brooklyn, Ia., and Mrs. Geo. Currie and Miss Essie Orr, of Elizabeth, N.J. One sister and four brothers have preceded him in death.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Brooklyn, conducted by Rev. John W. Pool assisted by Rev. J.H. Burnworth. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. John Beatty and Willie Sloan of Des Moines, Willard Orr of Neglie, Neb., H.H. Johnston of Coggon, Ia. and Miss Laura Lipton of Preemption, Ill.
