MOTHER OF MRS. L.J. SAMPSON PASSES

Rebecca Ellen Gilbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Gilbert, was born March 26, 1856 in Keokuk Co., near Hedrick, Iowa, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Steel, west of Montezuma, Iowa, June 8th, 1928, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 13 days.

On December 9, 1878 she was united in marriage with James N. Davis. To this union five children were born. Two chldren preceded her in death. The surviving children who, with the husband, mourn her decease are, William E. Davis of Chicago, Mrs. L.J. Sampson of Grinnell and Mrs. Joe Steele of Montezuma. Had Mrs. Davis lived until December of this year she would have been privileged to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Davis was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She has been in poor health for some time and during this time had been cared for tenderly by her children. She also leaves nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Joe Steel, near Montezuma, at one o'clock on Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Mr. Gregson. Further services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.J. Sampson in Grinnell at three o'clock on the same afternoon. The Rev. George Blagg was in charge of the service in Grinnell. The hymns, "Home of the Soul" and "Gathering Home" were sung by Mrs. Dempster and Mrs. McCunniff. Burial was made in Hazelwood.
