Mount Pleasant Free Press; Thurs. August 9, 1894

--A man by the name of J. Campbell, of Deep River, Iowa, who had been a patient at the hospital for the insane about two months, was killed near West Burlington last Saturday. His peculiar form of mania was melancholia. He was convalescent and allowed the privileges of the grounds, but Thursday last he eluded his attendants and escaped. The body was found under a cattle guard with his head pushed up between the ties which a passing train smashed. The coroner's report said that indications were that the man crawled under the guard and went to sleep. He chose a queer pillow unless he sought the sleep that knows no waking. His name, J. Campbell, was painted on the inside of his vest, as is the custom at the hospital. A letter from his wife was found in his pocket, but no money.

"One more weary one gone to his rest."
