MRS. ELMER SLAGLE RITES HELD IN KANSAS

A former Montezuma resident, Mrs. Elmer Slagle, 58, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 18, at the Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton, Kans., after a long illness.

Mrs. Slagle was the former Lodi Mae Tarvin and was born at Barnes City Sept. 25, 1910. She was a graduate of Montezuma High School. On May 31, 1931, she married Elmer V. Slagle at Brooklyn. She was a librarian for 20 years and had lived in Hugoton since 1947.

She was a member of the Hugoton Methodist Church, O.E.S., past Matron of the O.E.S. chapter at Brooklyn, a member of the Kansas Librarian Association and Southwest Kansas Library System.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Mrs. H.N. (Katherine) Young of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. R.E. (Alice) Barnard of Omaha; sons, Capt. Douglas Slagle of Arlington, Va., Roy Slagle of Akron, O.; sisters, Mrs. George (Bertha) Vanderburg of New York, Mrs. Floyd (Marjorie) Little of Montezuma; brothers, Everett Tarvin and Cleo Tarvin, both of Leonia, N.J., Floyd Tarvin of Montezuma, Clark Tarvin of Brooklyn and Raymond Tarvin of Malcom; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Slagle were Sunday afternoon, Sept. 21, at the Hugoton Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Leslie in charge. Burial was at the Hugoton Cemetery with O.E.S. graveside rites.

Attending the services from this area were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Tarvin and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Little of Montezuma; Mr. and Mrs. Clark Tarvin of Brooklyn; and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Tarvin of Malcom.
