Obituary for Susan Harman Rehberg

Susan Harmon was born on September 27, 1841, in Crawford County, Missouri, and died November 11, 1917, in Grinnell, aged 76 years 1 month and 15 days. She moved to Iowa with her parents in 1855 and the family settled in Sheridan township, where her home remained until she moved to Grinnell seventeen years ago. Her home has been her ever since.

On March 27, 1859, she married John Rehberg, who preceded her in death. To them were born six children, three of whom survive her. They are Fred Rehberg of Sheridan, Clarence of Sioux County and Henry of Grant township. One son, John died in infancy and two daughters have also passed away-- Nettie, wife of Henry Baustian, in July of 1897 and Mary, wife of August Schroeder, on July 28, 1917. She leaves, also, three brothers, Henry Harmon of Brooklyn, John of Kearney, Nebraska, and Jacob of Washington state fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

On October 25, 1914, she united with the Christian Church of Grinnell, of which she remained a helpful and constant member until her death.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, from the home at the corner of Sixth Avenue and East Street. Rev A. C. Stowe, her pastor, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. W.B. Wilson. The music was furnished by Mrs. Stowe and Mrs. J. A. Kingsland. Six grandsons were the pallbearers. Interment was in the Malcolm Cemetery.

Mrs. Rehberg is sincerely mourned by many friends who have known her during her years of busy, active and helpful life in this community. She will be greatly missed.
